Students Who Thrive

This month, as we in America send our children back to school, we want to focus on the students you support in East Africa through our Thrive Program.

Our students range from primary and secondary school age in Kenya to college-aged students in South Sudan and Uganda. At all levels, these children simply could not thrive as they are without your support. School attendance is not all taken for granted, as only a small percentage are able to advance to what we would consider "high school". That's why we are so grateful for your support and your prayers for our students as they advance toward a chance at higher education. At present, there are 33 active students in Uganda who are studying at either trade schools or universities. Last year there were 4 higher education graduates, and this school year we are hoping for as many as 8! These are remarkable numbers considering the environment that exists in our part of East Africa.

If you would like to learn more about supporting our students financially, click here.  You can read some student profiles and decide to sponsor particular students or you can decide to just give in support of the general Thrive program. Either way, you are helping to literally change a young person's life.

We hope you enjoy Amber's update in this month's video and that you thank God with us for what He is doing in the lives of these students ... and in the lives of their supporters!

Thrive Student Update

Of our 33 students in the upper level of our Thrive program, 22 are actively continuing coursework as they pursue degrees in medicine, law, pharmacy, engineering, nursing, education, and technical programs. Over half of these students are currently completing their final year, final exams, research projects, or graduation requirements, and several are expected to graduate between October and next spring.

After graduation and before most degrees allow you into the workforce they have required internships. We currently have 11 students completing internships or practical placements in fields including healthcare, education, agriculture, electrical work, and medical supplies.

One of our students, Rose, is doing her internship with the medical task force through the department of health in Uganda. As many of you know, the Ebola outbreak has been of high concern. Rose has been able to be in the refugee camps training on Ebola detection and prevention. This is an incredible example of His Voice Global’s mission and vision: to raise up leaders among the vulnerable to see relationships restore and communities renewed.
