A few weeks ago Vernon wrote a blog about the god called “Problem Solving” based upon a conversation he and I had earlier that day.  He ended the blog with a question as to how we should go about repenting of our idolatry.  Here is my personal response.

For me the manifestation of this idolatry is a hyperfocus on the future and trying to “figure it out”.  Consequently I miss a lot of what God is doing today.  So I took a 3×5 note card and wrote on the top of it “TODAY” and put the following questions and verses:

Father what are you doing TODAY to glorify yourself in and through me?

How can I delight myself in you TODAY?

What blessings of yours am I missing TODAY b/c I am fixated on tomorrow?

What do success and obedience look like TODAY?

Who and/or what would you have me pray for and meditate on TODAY so that my focus in not inward?

Psalm 115:3

Psalm 139:23-34

Proverbs 3:5-6

Proverbs 16:1-3

Proverbs 20:24

Luke 10:41-42

Luke 12:22-34

Ephesians 3:20

James 4:13-17

The questions were influenced by a sermon I heard a few Sunday’s back entitled “God @ work” which you can find here.

Have a great week.
